Final Film poster design
Evaluation question 3 script
What have you learnt from audience feedback?
Research into my target audience and what they like films to consist of, helped me to notice that a linear narrative which had a closed ending would be the most well liked short film. Even though the vote saw that the most preferable genre of film was comedy, as a group we decided that creating an effective comedy in a short 5 minute period would be a big challenge and thus have gone with the second most popular genre which is drama. The amount of votes suggesting that people like endings with mixed emotions also gives us leeway for the ending of our film as we can decided as a group whether to make the ending shocking and upsetting, or decide that we would like to go for a happy ending. Finally, the vote on traits gave us a clear indication that people who are unpredictable or hard to read were the people that most people found frightening and therefore we will try to incorporate this into our film going forward.
Screenplay interview:
People like the dark mysterious elements of our film, but we realised that the narrative could at times appear confusing. In order to combat this we knew that we would need to focus heavily on the cinematography or simplify the screenplay, however we decided to put emphasis on the cinematography as people did enjoy the story which was given by the screenplay.
Teacher feedback:
From the first feedback from my teacher I have been able to noticed that more detail needs to be added to my work in order to help create a better standard of filming. This goes for all of the different aspects such as research and planning as this will mean that I have done the sufficient research in the genre of film that I am creating, as well as the actual narrative planning behind my own film.
Following prior feedback from my teacher I completed the tasks set out for me to do so. However, I was advised to add greater depth to my organisation and time management. Therefore I focused on this when continuing with work on my blog in order to bring my level of work up.
Animatic feedback:
From the animatic feedback we were able to discover that the genre and narrative of the film was coming through effectively, however it could easily be improved- especially when using the overlapping dialogue as we were told that at times this was hard to hear and therefore this is something we practiced before filming in order to make sure that it was perfected and easy to interpret. We also discovered that our non-diegetic sound needed to be improved as we were told that at times it added nothing and seemed out of time, thus we was able to develop this whilst going forward in the production stage of our film.
Film review feedback:
Through the feedback I received on my film review I noticed that I would need to make a few subtle tweaks to the layout in order to make it appear as professional as possible and make sure that the alignments are as intended. As well as this, a few grammatical errors were spotted due to changing the layout of the text itself and therefore this also needs to be corrected. This was all good information as it meant that moving forward I was able to make the film review even better as it would appear even more professional than it already did.
Film poster feedback:
From the feedback made on my three roughly designed posters I was given both positive and negative effects of all of these posters and worked towards making them better. The most popular design was the third design which incorporated an illustration of the skull due the abstract design, however other comments about the other posters commented on the good use of Photoshop in the other two. This therefore means that I was able to make a fourth poster after getting further answers on a favourite design which incorporates a few good features from each design and this allowed me to make an overall design which used elements of each poster and created a poster that I was very pleased with due to its
originality and simplistic yet intriguing design.
Screenplay 2 feedback:
After changing our screenplay we carried out more research from which we were able to discover that our target audience would prefer us to cut out some unnecessary lines in order to make the dialogue of the film more concise as well as making the narrative of the film clearer. They also would like us to make it more clear the purpose of the voices of the doctor and the dead character, so therefore we need to make this more clear to our audience and this is something that we were able to focus on through the filming of the narrative for the final piece.
Feedback on second draft:
From this feedback we now know that re-filming in order to improve certain shots and certain areas of continuity is key to improving our film, as well as making the split personality of Rob more clear in order to make the narrative of the whole film more vivid and clear to the target audience.
